Toothpaste is alkaline. What does this suggest about the conditions which encourage tooth decay?

The presence of acids (propionic and lactic), lower the Ph of the surface of the teeth as the day advances, and as long as the residues of previous meals start to decay, producing acidic products as result of the fermentations (mainly by bacillus lacticus) and many other bacilli, that give as end products, many acidic substances.


Alkaline tooth paste, could help to neutralize ( only in theory), those acidic products, producing neutral sodium salts.





However, it has not been proven scientifically, that alkaline materials such as tooth paste, reduce the number or frequency of dental decays, (caries), in studies made at big scale...

Toothpaste is alkaline. What does this suggest about the conditions which encourage tooth decay?
Acidic. Sugar in food becomes an acid and attacks the enamel of your teeth.

Reply:Tooth paste being an alkaline would suggest the chemical process that causes tooth decay is an acidic one.
Reply:well saliva is also slightly alkaline (or it should be).





acidic things are not good for tooth enamel - this goes for citrus fruits, being sick etc.

specifically the glycerin and other components!





in Oct 2005 - went to dentist - had 4 cavities @ $185 each to be filled -





decided to wait until got new Job in Nov - for dental benefits to kick in January 06
