Does decay in one tooth affect the others?

Streptococcus mutans is what causes tooth decay, and it IS contagious, so if you have decay on a tooth, and don't do anything about it, it will move on to the other teeth.

Does decay in one tooth affect the others?
no - decay is not contagious. However, if one tooth is decaying, chances are the others are or will as well.
Reply:generally if one tooth has decay the teeth that are next to it will also start to decay because you are obviously missing some plaque when you brush. Make sure you floss well and payu special attention to that area
Reply:yes it does. if it gets big enough. that is if you let it get it to a point where it is an actual Hole and you can see black substance then it can contaminate the teeth directly next to it. If it just beginning of a cavity (ex: you cant see it it is just a soft spot in a tooth- very small) then no it cannot spread bc it is not "contagious" if youd like . =)
