A decaying tooth?!?

would a decaying tooth irritate my gums? i have had sore gums for about a week and i noticed last night while i was flossing that i have a tooth in the back of my mouth that looks chipped but i think its been decaying for a while and i have just started to feel the soreness in my gums now. so do u think my gums have been hurting because of my decaying tooth?? and it just hurts around where that tooth is.

please help!

thanks in advanced.

also i do brush my teeth and floss regularly.

A decaying tooth?!?
It is possible that you are developing an abcess, which is an infection, due to the decaying tooth. Infection causes swelling, does it hurt when you bite on something or put pressure on it? It could also be related to irritation from the fracture. Either way, I would strongly advise seeing your dentist. Generally, the earlier you catch a problem the less invasive (and expensive) the treatment.
Reply:no
Reply:Have you had your wisdom teeth pulled? If not, they could be coming in and causing irritation back there due to cutting through, since you say you brush and floss regularly.
