Question for 4-year-old boy's decay teeth!!!?

I have a serious question for my little boy's teeth. I just take him to see the pediatric dentistry today, and the doctor told me that he has decay teeth. The decay teeth is not too bad but she is considering the teeth are too weak to do a white filling. She suggests to have crown for him.

BUT my question is -- the doctor wants to do ALL (20 teeth) with 20 crown. I understand each tooth has a mild decay, but he is just going turning 4-year-old. WHY he need ALL 20 teeth doing 20 crown? Please please anyone to help me with an answer!!!! Thank you so much!!!

Question for 4-year-old boy's decay teeth!!!?
the doctor probably just wants to rip you off. kids dont need that stuff, they lose their baby teeth anyways...
Reply:Hello, the reason your son has tooth decay at 4 years old is because he eats too many sweets and does not brush his teeth, and MOM that is your fault! He probably eats sweets all day long and never brushes his teeth, and all that sugar is rotting his teeth. Teeth are hard and durable and should never be this bad at 4 years old. Now the poor kid has to endure all sorts of pain due to your negligence. His teeth must be pretty bad if he needs all that work at his young age.
Reply:this is too important to get an answer on Yahoo. Get a second opinion from another dentist.
Reply:Tooth decay in baby teeth can cause problem in permanent teeth. Since children start losing their teeth around 5 and it can take several years, the dentist probably wants to prevent any other decay.

If you have ?'s I would suggest getting a second opinion. Go to another dentist and see what they have to say.

Good Luck
Reply:Your 4 year old is going to lose his teeth until he is about 7 years old. I would strongly suggest to your dentist that the 'quick fix' of crowning is not worth it and that you would rather fill the teeth with fillings and let them come out. Ask for flouride treatment and make sure your child is not deficient in Vitamin D.
Reply:I don't trust those types of doctors anymore. The once wanted to use laughing gas on my 3 year old sister and do surgery to save one of her baby teeth!

Your kids teeth are gonna fall out when he gets his adult teeth anyway. Don't let your doctor perform such an extreme amount of procedures on a 4 year old.

get a second opinion at least. My suggestion is that you regulate his diet and keep his teeth clean and just wait it out until he gets his adult teeth.
Reply:Baby teeth do fall out but they're space maintainers for your adult teeth. If no one is holding the line, then your adult teeth will come in crooked, crowded, and maybe impacted. The dentist wants the teeth crowned because he or she feels that's the best way to preserve the natural teeth.

You're not doing a good job on brushing your child's teeth. A 4 year old doesn't have the dexterity or knowledge to properly brush their teeth. At this point it's about maintenance, and preventing anything else from happening after your child's teeth are crowned. Your baby teeth fall out at different times, but the last one usually falls out when they're around 12.

Does your child sleep with a bottle? If he does he can only have water because everything else has sugar in it. When a child falls asleep, they'll hold the liquid in their mouth and won't swallow it. So it's 6-7 hours of bathing your teeth in sugar water. Sippy cup also is the same issue. They won't swallow the liquid if they're engrossed in watching television.
Reply:i would look further. It sound like your guy needs his teeth covered. I can't think of what it is called,,but my great nephew had it done as he had milk teeth..and he cried with them. HE was put to sleep and the put a covering on his teeth. Don't let the put "crowns" on them
Reply:I had a lot of tooth decay myself as a child and I can say that not all cases are caused by eating too many sweets and not enough brushing. I didn't eat a lot of sweets as a child even though I liked them. My mother largely kept them away from me. That was because she also suffered a lot of tooth decay when she was younger and thought it was caused by candy. The funny thing is that she does not have a sweet tooth and actually doesn't like candy. Some people are naturally more prone to tooth decay than others. It has to do with the hardness of their teeth and the amount of acidity in their saliva. My husband has some relatives who ate all kinds of junk as children and never brushed their teeth yet they never got cavities. They ended up losing all their teeth to gum disease.

As for your son, I am a little skeptical as to why he needs to have all those teeth crowned. I can see having it done to his back teeth since he might be holding onto them for at least another six or seven years but he is going to start losing his front teeth within a year or two. Having teeth capped is a painful procedure. I don't know why the dentist wants to put him through that. Unless the teeth are totally decayed and the roots are gone, they can still be built up. I would suggest you go see another dentist and get a second opinion on this.
Reply:Why can't you teach your kid to brush his teeth, Miss Nasty ***?
