Can i remove a decayed tooth during pregnancy?

i am 6 months pregnant ,from the fourth month i started having toothache.i was placed on antibiotics and pain reliever due to my pregnant state.i took the antibiotics for just a day and stopped because i know it can be dangerous to the foetus.the painreliever i was forced to take on occassions when the pain became unbearable. My dentist adviced me not to remove the teeth till after my pregnancy saying that it is very big and strong being molars the last teeth on the row. Finally he made a hole beside the decayed tooth and inside this was placed some medication for about 1 week which helped to relieve the pain. But this pain is back again.it makes me miserable and i wonder if i can continue like this till the end of my pregnancy.what do i do? Should i remove this tooth or continue bearing and enduring the pain.

Can i remove a decayed tooth during pregnancy?
No, you should not have major dental work done while pregnant. The numbing medicine can harm the baby. I had 3 decayed teeth while pregnant and had to wait. In the meantime, and don't think this is crazy till you try it, swish cold canned pepsi (not bottled) on the tooth. It will give you a couple hours of relief at a time.
Reply:You should get the tooth removed because obviously it's causing you to stress %26amp; that too is bad for the baby. Just get it pulled %26amp; get it over with. I saw a dentist during my pregnancy %26amp; they performed a root canal %26amp; other procedures %26amp; my baby is fine.
Reply:You're putting your infant at more risk by having not taken the antibiotics, and likely having made the bacteria immune to the antibiotics, than had you just did what your doctor told you to do. Now you're risking abscess and blood infection, which could kill the fetus AND you.
Reply:It would be better to endure the pain as at 6 months pregnancy if you remove the tooth most likely it will be done without any pain pills. pain pills can hurt your fetus. So if you want to go ahead and bear the pain of tooth removal without pain pills you can have them removed. Otherwise bear the smaller pain and keep them till your baby is born.
Reply:You Need advice again of a professional - Dentist / and or Doctor. This is a serious business for you and baby. Get another opinion tell them you are in pain. Im sure something can be done.
Reply:You should have continued the antibiotics. If your tooth abscesses, you'll have to have oral surgery, and THAT would be dangerous to the baby. Is your whole tooth completely shot (as in, it needs to be pulled) or is it just that you need a root canal? First of all, if your dentist is all gung-ho on pulling your tooth, find a new dentist. Any GOOD dentist will save a tooth at all costs. If he's just like, "Hey, let's pull it and get it over with!" then you need to find a new dentist. The main concern with dental work during pregnancy is x-rays. Most dental work (assuming they use a local anesthesia to numb the area (not a general anesthesia or nitrous oxide) is safe. Speak with your dentist about this. He should know what can and can't be done during pregnancy.
Reply:I had a tooth removed this pregnancy and it would really be better if you get it out as soon as possible. The antibiotics are a must to get rid of the infection otherwise it risks spreading to the baby, they are not dangerous. They can give you pain pills that are safer for pregnancy such as tylenol 3's, no ibuprofen though. Getting it removed now if its needed would be much better and will keep it from getting infected again later on. Any other work that needs to be done can wait, but tooth removal is ok.
Reply:You can't do any surgeries during pregnancy. You need to hold this pain as long as you can. I currently have pregnancy gingivitis and my dentist said she can't do anything until I go through labor. My gums were so swollen and painful that I didn't even want to brush my teeth. Time pass by really fast. I have 2 more months before the baby is due.
Reply:Well i can relate to you i just had my left back molar extracted, after 9 days of not sleeping becuse of the pain and crying all might and day i went to one dentist and he put me on pennicillin and that didnt work so the 4 days later i went to another dentis and he happily removed it for me because he said i cant keep being in pain like that for the baby's sake, my doc says it was ok just give me a local and they prescribed me tylenol 3 with codeine it felt so much better after they took it out that i never even got the meds filled so try a nother dentist and cry to them thats what i did. good luck i lknow how you feel

i forgot to say some of the things i tried before they removed it for the pain. my maw maw said to swish my mouth with raw vanilla 4 times a day make sure to saturate the tooth with it very good each time eventually it will kill the nerve
Reply:Prepare yourself with ampicillin 500 mg 3 times per day for 3 days before going to the doctor
Reply:Oh god, I am glad you asked this question because I am going through this myself. I am 5 1/2 months.

I dont know what to do about the tooth but i am making an appointment with the dentist.

Thanks for askiing the question!@!!
