What dietary advice can be given to prevent tooth decay?

What would you suggest ... ? any ideas ? we are brainstorming now !! thought shower !!

What dietary advice can be given to prevent tooth decay?
anything starchy is very cariogenic. Starchy foods breakdown into sugar, and starchy foods are very retentive. Frequency and duration of consumption of food plays a part also not just the type of food you consume. Sodas and fruit juices are very high in sugar and most are very acidic that can dissolve the teeth when consumed frequently.





water is the best drink...not even energy drinks are good. everything in moderation is good. when we eat or drink the pH of our mouths change into an acidic pH...so to help lessen the acidity...it would be great to chew gum with xylitol after we eat to promote salivation and thus lessen the acidity...oral pH care! hehehe! brush your teeth after 30 minutes after eating to at least stabilize the pH of your mouth before brushing to avoid abrasion.
Reply:don't eat foods with lots of sugar or drink carbonated sodas, and lemonade.


Anything that is high in acid or sugar will hurt your teeth.
Reply:when it comes to chocolate and sweets, u need to take care of the frequency in which u consume them. for example, if u have a bag of M%26amp;Ms , eat it all at once , then go brush ur teeth. don't eat one every half an hour or so .. this is very important in preventing tooth decay.





the consistency of the food causing caries is also very important. if it's sticky and adheres to ur teeth for long periods of times then it's harmful to your teeth.





did u know that potato chips and biscuits are more cariogenic than chocolate?. anything that contains cooked carbohydrates is cariogenic.





u also have to take care of the beverages u consume. fruit juice is cariogenic because it's full of fructose sugar. but if u eat fruits as a whole (not only the juice) it can help u prevent caries because it requires active chewing , which will increase ur saliva flow and thus decrease caries.

Reply:I would say , eat what you wish to but always remember ...three things:


1.Rinse you mouth after eating .Meaning swish mouth with water and drink . that's more practical then brushing between meals or snacks.


2.Adapt good brushing technique, use good brush and tooth paste .Take you dentist advice for brushing technique.


3.Advisable to chew xylitol chewing gums .The purpose behind chewing gum is to increase salivation and continuous wetting of the oral cavity with saliva .Because by chewing salivation is increased and subsequently cleans the oral table .
