How's this: If you use salt water to wash your mouth, you'll neutralize the acids that cause tooth decay.

I was told to use a salt water rinse after having my wisdom teeth out, so many years ago, because brushing would cause bleeding. I think it's something dentists already know. But it doesn't remove plaque. It's supposed to be temporary.
