Fixing tooth?

I have a fake tooth that falls out every couple years (lost in a rock fight when I was young). Now I have the fake piece with me, and there are no signs of tooth decay to have made it fall out. I may have been brushing too hard. Anyways this thing covers 1/3 of my tooth. Would a crown be more worthwhile to have? or just have the fake redone...I need to know the cost benefits vs. the length of time each one will last.
