hello
half of my molar tooth is decayed to the gum level on one side, the other side is fine
i am considering extracting it (to avoide future complications even after treating it)
what kind of a qualified dentist i should be looking for ( i am afraid any dentist could break it while extracting it)
What dentist to extract decayed tooth ?
Don't worry, any general dentist can make the extraction. Even when the tooth brakes while it is extracted (which happenes a lot), the dentist can cut the gums a little bit and still take the remaining roots out. I see it all the time. Don't worry, you won't feel a thing.
Reply:See a general dentist first, let him take an x-ray, and see what can be done to fix it. You can always have it extracted later, but it's better to keep the tooth if possible (especially molars). Complications are not common, if the tooth is fixed right. If you do decide to have it removed, I strongly recommend an oral surgeon. They simply have more experience in extractions than general dentists, that's what they do all day long. If half of the tooth is decayed, it will probably brake during extraction, and if done by an oral surgeon, it will be out of your mouth much quicker. You'll have less trauma if it's done in 2 min. versus 20. You might pay a few bucks more, but overall the prices are comparable, you also have an option of being sedated for the procedure. Good luck.
