Is there any way to slow tooth decay after it has started?

I have a cavity, but I don't have dental insurance so I can't go to the dentist right now. Anyway, does anyone know if there is a way to slow the decay or to improve it...like with calcium supplements or something like that? I already brush try to take care of them the best I can. Any ideas?

Is there any way to slow tooth decay after it has started?
G'day Close2u9579,

Thank you for your question.

First of all, you have my sympathy.

Secondly, I would suggest that you see a dentist as it can lead to pain, tooth loss, infection, and, in severe cases, death. It will save you money to have it treated now.

Destroyed tooth structure does not fully regenerate, although remineralization of very small cavities may occur if dental hygiene is kept at optimal level. For small cavities, topical fluoride is sometimes used to encourage remineralization. For larger lesions, the progression of dental caries can be stopped by treatment. The goal of treatment is to preserve tooth structures and prevent further destruction of the tooth.

Generally, early treatment is less painful and less expensive than treatment of extensive decay.

I attach sources for your reference.

Reply:try flossing and rinsing your mouth, it could only help the cause.
Reply:Go to the dentist now and use a credit card!
Reply:go to a store like wal-mart in the toothpaste isle they have a filler kit you can do at home. It won't get rid of it but maybe slow it down. Get to a dentist asap.
Reply:Try scraping all the brown crap out of the hole in your tooth, where the bristles can't reach, then, when it's all clear, fill the hole with that glue you put on dentures.
Reply:Keep your mouth really clean, and go to the dentist alot. That should help, but if you are still worried then ask your dentist what can be done.
Reply:they have a product called flouridex...you can order it online or get it at a dentist's office...you brush with it, and don't rinse. It helps to slow decay. Good luck!
Reply:Once decay has started it will continue to eat your tooth. You may slow it by brushing 2 x per day, use mouthwash and don't drink soda eat sweets or raisens or anything sticky or gooey. No sugary gum either.

The longer you wait when you get a cavity the more it will cost to fix. You can even lose the tooth I did. See if you are covered through school or work or contact groups around town who help families. They can have a dentist that works for free if your family has a low income.
