I'm not sure what you mean by stage 3.
Under enamel there is dentin, a softer more sensitive area of tooth. If the decay is not to the dentin yet then high concentration topical fluoride can sometimes reverse the problem or stop it.
If the decay is larger or to dentin, it will likely have to be removed and a restoration placed. As for a crown or just a filling, I couldn't tell without seeing it.
One thing is for sure, it won't fix itself or slow on its own. You need to see a dentist, to find out what your options are.
Good Luck.
Can Stage 3 of tooth decay (enamel slightly chipped off at base) be reveresed?
enamel cannot be replaced. once a tooth has erupted (it's in your mouth), the ameloblast which produce enamel no longer produce it.
you could go to a dentist and get your tooth capped.
Reply:You can't reverse tooth decay but you can help slow down the decay process by having it treated. Eventually you may loose that tooth.
